Standartization Council for Geographic Names (SCGN) approved Tuesday the unified transliteration system, suggested by the Ministry of State Administration and Administrative Reform (MSAAR), news agencies reported.

The project for a uniform transliteration concerns first names of all Bulgarian citizens. A part of Cyrillic written names have different Latin spelling but change will be only by people’s will. However, the system turns obligatory when writing geographical denominations in Latin letters, Nikolay Vasilev, Minister of State Administration and Administrative Reform said.

Vasilev plans to contact Asen Gagauzov, the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works so that transliteration becomes legitimate. Financing of sign changes is to be arranged between MSAAR and Bulgaria’s 28 municipalities, Minister added.

The table with the names of settlements spelling can be reached at the MSAAR official website.
