MA in Audiovisual Translation at City University
City University are now recruiting for a part-time course leading to MA in Audiovisual Translation from September 2009 »»»
Taught on two evenings a week, this new MA will give students who have English and another language, key translation skills for subtitling, dubbing or voice-over work plus competencies such as translation-specific project management.
Experienced professionals and academics will teach students about the different forms of audiovisual translation and how translation fits into film production and distribution. The course has been designed in close consultation with the audiovisual industry and combines theory with practical work.
 
Modules on the MA will include:
  • Industry context and processes 
  • Principles and techniques of subtitling 
  • Interlingual subtitling 
  • Translation for dubbing and voice-over 
  • Audio description for film and TV 
  • Principles of screenwriting and the translation of screenplays 
  • Audiovisual project management

Students can take the MA in Audiovisual Translation with a wide range of language combinations including English into Arabic, Czech, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish; or Arabic, Czech, French, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish into English.
