In a talk given in front of students at the University of Waterloo, Canada, Microsoft Founder Bill Gates spoke about the software industry and Microsoft, the place where he thinks “the action is” at a time the information revolution is just beginning, the Globe and Mail reported.
According to the article Mr. Gates also pointed out that Microsoft will get into the development of software that will process language:
“Microsoft will make more software in the next 10 years than it made during the past three decades, as technology finally emerges to allow the creation of more ambitious products, Mr. Gates said … The future will see software that performs voice and image recognition as well as automatic language translation. Software will also eventually act as a personal agent that determines a user’s location and availability, directing phone calls, e-mails and instant messages to a device, he said. ‘We’ll laugh at the days we had phone numbers and multiple e-mail addresses.’”
In an effort to stop the draining away of the industry’s smartest young professionals to rivals like Google and Yahoo, Microsoft Founder is currently visiting North American University to re-enforce the interest in Computer Sciences and, more specifically, Microsoft Inc.
